Matt Weston: A dark prince is emerging as the new bold benchmark for cutting-edge jewellery design. Since collaborating with Virgin Mobile for a mobile phone recycling project in which Weston turned pieces of cell phones into exquisite one-off accessories, the Sydney-based designer's popularity among pendant puchasers has skyrocketed. Most notable in his design ethos is a shift from the big bright bling of yesteryear, to a rustic style that strikes a modern eco chord. He uses found objects such as feathers, soda pop tops, old school keys and buttons to create jewellery pieces with a homey recycled feel.
His innovative works have been covered by several starlets, seen around the necks of Nicole Richie (for the cover of 'Nylon' magazine), Aussie swimwear goddess Cheyenne Tozzi, and male model cutie Charlie Taperell.
You'll find Weston's treasures in the finest boutiques in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia but also London and Tokyo.
